A Look Into Mid-Century Style

You'll often hear the saying "form follows function" in relation Mid Century design - a style that has proved to be extremely popular even to this day thanks to its simplicity and clean lines. This design style came to be around World War II and continued through to the 50's and 60's.
Decorating in a Mid-Century style
Look for simple, clean lines in the forms of furniture and accessories
Warm tones, especially when it comes to timbers - most Mid-Century furniture is made from medium to dark toned timber (think walnut, etc). Leather, glass or steel often make an appearance in the furniture.
Low-lying furniture is popular
When it comes to accent colours you can go for muted colour and pastels if you'd rather have a bit more colour.
Popular Mid-Century designers you're probably familiar with: Pierre Jeanneret (a personal favourite of ours), Charles & Ray Eames and Eero Saarinen - just to name a few.
Geometric lines
Slim Aarons artwork is a great way to incorporate colour
Lots of glass to bring the outdoors in (so introduce some indoor plants - monsteras and rubber plants are a popular choice!).
